Construction Update!

It has been awhile since we have given an update on what has been happening around here. This will definitely be a long one. We have had a lot of activity around the house the last few weeks, they have removed our shingles, gutted our bathroom except the toilet and floor, and started getting the garage area ready. My dad has been around a lot lately as well. He installed shut off valves on all our water pipes in the bathroom and kitchen and he installed the plumbing for the shower upstairs. Since the garage wasn't totally framed up, they couldn't shingle the whole back side until that was done.

Well, last Sunday night it started to rain and that continued until Monday night early Tuesday morning and we received 3-5 inches in the area. When I woke up Monday morning I went downstairs into the laundry room and the floor was wet. I didn't think too much of it since we were used to getting water in the basement from the stairs to the backyard in the room. I looked over at the door and it was completely dry. So now I'm trying to figure out where the water is coming from. I finally notice it dripping from the floor board above. My dad was just up Sunday to work on the plumbing so I thought maybe there was a leak. Before I was able to get into the closet where he was working, there was a puddle of water dripping from the doorframe above. So I left a note for the workers to check out the leak and when I got to school I would call the contractor. When I called the contractor, he proceeded to tell me that when they arrived water was dripping from the ceiling fan above our bed and throwing water all around our room and it was also dripping from another doorframe as well.

Jon had to bowl that night and I had a volleyball game so when I finally got home it was around 8:00pm and Jon's mom met me at home. Jon made arrangements for us to stay at their house for the night as our bed was completely wet and we were unsure of the safety. We went to check out the basement and there were more floor boards wet than before and water was still coming down pretty good. So I called our contractor again and he sent a guy over to check the house. he then decided to get some tarps and tarp up the house where they haven't put shingles on yet. Tuesday when Jon got home it was still pretty wet but at least it had stopped raining. I had another volleyball game so I wasn't home until late again and Jon made arrangements for us to stay at his parents house again.

By Friday this week, they had the roof on the garage and the back half was complety shingled just in time for the rain on Saturday. Guess What?!? For the first time since the tornado in May, we didn't have water in the basement!

They finally gave us more money to reside our whole house, so we are very excited about that. We picked a 5 inch siding and went with a dark tan. We have the siding left, the bathroom vanity needs to be put in, the drywall needs to be taped and muddied, and the bathroom needs to be painted. They also need to fix the cracks in the walls.

Will post the link to the construction pictures after this.
